Candidate for Missouri State Senate District 23

About Richard

I have devoted my life to making a comfortable home for my wife, daughter, and granddaughter and have always tried to support government policies that will ensure they will have a healthy and safe environment to live in, clean air to breath, clean water to drink, good affordable health care, education opportunities, and public parks and wild places to experience nature and wildlife. I believe in supporting our first responders, and having a strong military, used with discretion, and that we should do everything in our power as a society to take care of the needs of returning veterans who have risked their lives to protect all of us. I believe that hard-working middle-class families built Missouri into the great state that it is and they deserve to have their interests protected by their state legislature but this is currently not happening. The GOP General Assembly has been busy feathering their own nests and taking care of their corporate campaign donors at the expense of the rest of us. I hope, with your help, we can change this unfortunate trend.

Richard Orr

My family and faith have always been the most important factors in my life. My deeply Christian grandmother raised my father as a single mother in the 1930s. She was an inspiration to me throughout my life, along with my mother and my father, who served honorably in WWII, and who was also my best friend.

Starting with my great-great uncle (who nearly won the Missouri governorship in 1861) through my uncle, who ran for 2nd district US representative in the 1960s, the desire for public service has run deep
in our family. My daughter has been in the US Army for 14 years and has served in Iraq and Afghanistan. Her mother and I could not be more proud of her and of what she has accomplished in serving her country so courageously.

I would like the opportunity to continue our family tradition and serve my fellow Missourians in the 23rd District as their Senator.

I have lived all my life in the St. Louis metro area and in the upper Meramec valley near Bourbon that my ancestors settled. I was raised by my businessman father to work hard and be professional (I have worked in the sporting goods business here for the last 35 years after 4 years at the University of Missouri) and to cherish all the outdoor recreation opportunities afforded by the Eastern Missouri Ozarks. As soon as I could walk my father helped me explore our Ozark family farm and begin a lifelong love of camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing, caving, and exploring our wonderful rural Missouri countryside. My wife, myself, and our family has happily called St.

Charles County our home for the last 14 years.

Early on I learned that the democratic party had more interest than the republicans in improving the lives of ordinary working Missourians and it has also been clear they are also the party that  worked hard to preserve our natural environment from the excesses of uncontrolled development and pollution. As a hunter, fisherman, and all round outdoorsman I feel I need to try to go to Jefferson City and reverse the anti-park, anti-environment, forces that have been in control there for so long.
